Our Visit

I visited a Korean restaurant called 'Onsimok Yeoksam Main Branch' near Yeoksam Station in Gangnam. Their main dish, galbitang, is a comforting broth once enjoyed by kings. As soon as I stepped inside, the savory smell of the broth insI stopped by after lunch when I had some free time, and the place was packed with locals, showing how popular it is. I stopped by after lunch when I had some free time, and the place was packed with locals, showing how popular it is. The restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating, so even with a full house, the quick turnover makes it convenient.

I followed the staff's guidance and looked over the menu. I ordered 'Abalone Galbitang,' 'Korean Beef Yukhoe Bibimbap,' 'Korean Beef Yukjeon,' and 'Spicy Braised Ribs with Bomb Cheese' (for two people). Using a Creatrip coupon, I got a free egg for the Galbitang. After promising to write a review, I also received a complimentary Korean-style boiled beef salad with vegetables and seasoning!

Abalone Galbitang' and 'Korean Beef Yukhoe Bibimbap' are served with simple side dishes like chili peppers, ssamjang, squid jeotgal, and kkakdugi. The water here is special, brewed with Korean burdock for 12 hours. Drinking it before your meal helps soothe your stomach and prepares you for a warm, comforting dining experience.

'Onsimok Yeoksam Main Branch' is cleaned and disinfected daily, with kitchen staff wearing sanitary gloves and hats for hygiene. It has also been certified with an excellent hygiene grade by the Korea Food and Drug Administration, so you can eat here with confidence.

Here's how the 'Abalone Galbitang' is made. 'Onsimok Yeoksam Main Branch' uses only high-quality beef ribs. To ensure tenderness, the ribs are aged for 14 hours, then boiled for 6 hours in filtered water, creating a rich broth that's easy on the stomach.

The rich meat and broth are simmered together for a deep flavor. Then, two steamed abalones are gently added to complete the dish.

Creatrip Coupon Benefit: 1 free egg

When I added the eggs from the Creatrip coupon and let them cook in the warm broth, they looked amazing and tasted even better. Adding an egg to Galbitang is a signature here, so don't forget to grab a coupon from Creatrip!

Abalone Galbitang

The 'Abalone Galbitang,' with its impressive presentation, was served. It takes 20 hours of dedication to make—14 hours for aging and 6 hours for boiling the broth. With two large abalones, this nutrient-packed dish is definitely a powerful health food.

The basic seasoning comes with a beef sauce and minced Cheongyang pepper mix. To enjoy the Galbitang fully, I prepared the Yuk Jang sauce in the dish with the minced chili seasoning.

Once you’ve added enough kkakdugi to your bowl, your meal is ready. Enjoy the deliciously prepared Galbitang!

Using tongs to hold the abalone shell and gently pulling it out with scissors, the abalone comes off easily. Then, cut it into bite-sized pieces. The abalone in the 'Abalone Galbitang' is thick and chewy, giving a satisfying, healthy feel with each bite.

Next, let’s try the galbi. Use tongs to hold the ribs and scissors to easily cut the tender meat. The galbi here is soft and chewy, with a texture that will win you over from the first bite. The Galbitang soup itself is mild, not too salty, offering a clean and comforting taste.

Dip the galbi meat into the special sauce and enjoy. It gives you a unique Galbitang experience you won’t find anywhere else!

For a unique and hearty Galbitang, scoop the half-cooked egg into a bowl. Then, add the Cheongyang chili seasoning and meat sauce, mix it with rice, and enjoy the special flavor.

The red peppers served as a side dish aren’t spicy and have a nice crunch. They taste even better with Galbitang. Dipping the pepper in ssamjang adds a nutty flavor, making each bite even more delicious.

Next, I tried the 'Korean Beef Yukhoe Bibimbap.' It features thinly sliced Korean beef served over lettuce, fernbrake, and other fresh ingredients.

Korean Beef Yukhoe Bibimbap

The 'Korean Beef Yukhoe Bibimbap' arrived with a beautiful, clean presentation. The rich, nutty aroma of sesame oil hit me as soon as it was served, instantly boosting my appetite. It comes with gochujang and broth, making it even more enjoyable.

The 'Korean Beef Yukhoe Bibimbap' uses grade No. 9 Hanwoo, ensuring it's incredibly fresh. There's also a generous amount of Yukhoe, allowing you to fully enjoy its natural flavor.

Scoop enough rice into the bibimbap bowl and drizzle it with the bibimbap sauce. Mix it thoroughly, then take a big spoonful. The combination of fresh beef tartare, spicy gochujang, and crisp vegetables is absolutely delicious.

Next, I tried the 'Korean Beef Yukjeon.' At 'Onsimok Yeoksam Main Branch,' they use grade A beef for this dish. To keep the meat tender, it's first coated with glutinous rice flour to absorb moisture, then dipped in fresh, beaten eggs.

Next, lightly oil a frying pan and grill the beef on both sides until crispy. This simple method creates perfectly delicious Yukjeon.

Korean Beef Yukjeon

The 'Korean Beef Yukjeon' is served with perfectly grilled yukjeon and a side of seasoned minari salad. The yukjeon pieces are thick and satisfying.

I enjoyed each bite by adding the seasoned parsley to the sliced bulgogi. The Yukjeon was crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, with the perfect balance of chewiness and tenderness. The parsley added a crunchy texture and a sweet, tangy flavor that complemented the dish beautifully.

Creatrip Review Benefit 2: Korean-style boiled beef salad with vegetables and seasoning

As part of the Creatrip review benefit, the Korean-style boiled beef salad with vegetables and seasoning was served! The fresh, fragrant water parsley paired with the tender boiled pork made for an incredibly appetizing dish.

Finally, I tried the 'Spicy Braised Ribs (for 2) + Bomb Cheese.' You can choose between regular and extra spicy flavors. This dish requires a minimum of two servings, so keep that in mind. The regular flavor has a spice level similar to Shin Ramyun, making it approachable for most. The extra spicy option is hotter than Fire Chicken Ramen, perfect for those who love a strong kick.

The braised ribs are simmered in a spicy sauce, making them incredibly tender. Once the sauce deeply infuses the ribs, onions and squash are added, giving the dish a smoky aroma and completing the cooking process.

The braised ribs come with a variety of side dishes, different from those served with Galbitang. Corn, seaweed cold soup, mushroom salad, and cabbage are provided to balance the spicy flavor of the braised ribs, making for a well-rounded and satisfying meal.

After the braised ribs are cooked, a generous amount of bomb cheese is sprinkled on top. The cheese adds a rich, creamy layer to the dish.

Spicy Braised ribs (per 2 people) + bomb cheese

The braised ribs, topped with a generous amount of bomb cheese, are slightly melted with a torch and crisped up. The melted, savory cheese combines with the spicy sauce, creating a richer and even more delicious flavor.

When the cheese is crisped with a torch, it melts and stretches, making it irresistible. Paired with the spicy braised ribs, the melted cheese wraps around the galbi perfectly, creating an amazing blend of flavors.

To enjoy the Spicy Braised Ribs, first separate the meat from the bone and cut it into bite-sized pieces. When paired with the melted cheese, the spicy ribs and savory cheese create a rich harmony of flavors. The beef ribs wrapped in cheese add a soft, creamy touch, making the dish even more delicious.

The medium-spicy braised ribs have a mild heat that's enjoyable and easy to handle. Unlike Galbitang, the thick ribs absorb the sauce, offering a deep, flavorful bite. The spicy sauce seeps into the meat, making it tender and savory, and with every bite, you can taste the rich, juicy flavor of the soft, thick galbi.

The braised ribs are served with chewy shiitake mushrooms and crisp zucchini, adding a variety of textures. These ingredients make the dish even more delicious and well-balanced.

Pouring the spicy Galbijjim sauce over white rice, then mixing in the galbi meat, onions, and green onions, creates an unforgettable flavor. The explosion of tastes is something you shouldn't miss when visiting Korea—it's a must-try experience that defines the culinary adventure here!

After your meal, take the number card from your table to the cashier. Keep in mind that 'Onsimok Yeoksam Main Branch' doesn’t offer takeout due to spoilage concerns. If you're looking for a hearty, healthy Korean meal, I highly recommend visiting 'Onsimok Yeoksam Main Branch' in Yeoksam-dong!
